Mumbai: Residential Building Collapse

On September 28, 2013, a residential building in Mumbai collapsed leading to the death of 42 inhabitants. Between 83 and 89 people were known to be in the building, and 33 were rescued out of the rubble. This building collapse is not the first of its kind: many similar events have happened previously in Mumbai. Citizens blame poor construction techniques and subpar building materials. Land and housing are scarce in Mumbai but both are in high demand, leading to high prices. For this reason, many people have no choice but to live in dilapidated buildings. Questions 1.
